Abstract:
Mathematics plays a crucial role in academic and professional success, yet
its instruction often hinders student progress. This study aimed to identify the
determinants of first-year student performance in Mathematics in the Modern
World (MMW). A descriptive-correlational design was employed, utilizing a
questionnaire as the primary data collection method. Analysis indicated that
Senior High School GWA, entrance exam scores, study habits and learning
styles, classrooms and class size, and school facilities and equipment
significantly influenced MMW performance. Based on these findings, the
study recommends improving school facilities and equipment; minimize class
size, and encouraging students to develop better study habits. Additionally, it
suggests aligning instruction with students’ diverse learning styles to improve
MMW performance among first-year students.
