Discipline: Others in Nursing

Abstract:

Technological advancements in radiology have led to significant developments in diagnostic and therapeutic equipment. Radiologic technology education plays a vital role in meeting the demands of these advancements, requiring radiologic technologists to perform tasks confidently and competently, particularly in patient care and equipment operation. Despite research on clinical competency, few studies focus on the attitudes, skills, and competencies of radiologic technology interns in general radiography; therefore, the researcher stressed the importance of improving the clinical education training programs. This study aimed to assess these factors among radiologic technology interns. A descriptive-correlational design was employed. The study revealed that the interns had a positive attitude toward general radiography. Their skill level was also very high, and their clinical competency was rated highly across various parameters, including area preparation, patient care, positioning, and image acquisition. The study found moderate positive correlations between attitude and skills and between attitude and clinical competencies, particularly in areas like area preparation, patient care, and positioning. A moderate correlation was also observed between skills and clinical competencies in positioning and image processing. The results highlighted that radiologic technology interns demonstrated a positive attitude toward learning, high skills in radiography tasks, and strong clinical competencies. A positive attitude was associated with better skill levels and clinical competency in general radiography.
