Abstract:

The integration of information technology (IT) in business operations is essential for efficiency, yet the Philippines ranked 61st out of 64 in Global Finance's 2022 list of technologically advanced countries, indicating under utilization. This study examines IT adoption in academic institutions based on surveys from 2019 and 2021, focusing on business costs, IT infrastructure, and productivity. Findings show no significant changes in salary and IT project costs, though utility costs increased. Only 6% of institutions reported IT investments and staff training, while 50% adopted systems like Learning Management Systems. However, only 38% confirmed effective software utilization. Productivity improved for 37% of respondents, while 63% saw no change. While IT adoption offers potential benefits, the study reveals limited impact due to under utilization. Enhancing IT implementation and training is crucial for maximizing its advantages in academic settings. The findings of this study show that the data that supports this study shows no significant changes in business costs and the minority only shows an increase in productivity when schools are required to adapt to IT for them to provide their service during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines.
