SOCIAL SUPPORT AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT OF GRADE SIX PUPILS OF TALOMO DISTRICT A, DAVAO CITY

Carmen Rhodora M Jusay | Maylin M Blancia

Abstract:

This study aimed to determine the relationship between social support and the social development of grade six pupils. This study employed a non-experimental quantitative research method to determine the associations between variables, and the respondent of this study were the 110 public elementary school teachers in Talomo District, Division of Davao, for the school year 2020-2021. Pearson r was used in determining the relationship between the two variables. Findings revealed an extensive level of social support and an extensive level of social development of grade six pupils. Moreover, results also show that there was a moderate positive relationship between social support and social development and friends or peers and teachers were found to have a direct effect on self-esteem. Since most of the grade six pupils have high social support, it is suggested that school administrators of public government schools should create school organizational and academic structures that can increase the social support of their pupils in terms of family, friends or peers, neighbours, teachers, and church groups. School administrators could initiate activities wherein those mentioned variables will be addressed. More so, since the social development of grade six pupils in terms of self with peers, self with a family member, and self with the opposite sex were oftentimes observed, it is suggested that school administrators would also initiate or implement programs that would increase the social development of their pupils.
